Sudanese Women Call For Increasing Women’s Participation in Civil Forces Meetings in Addis Ababa

In a statement to Radio Tamazuj, activist Nahla al-Khazraji from Darfur expressed her rejection of this percentage and believes that it does not elevate the women of Darfur who have been affected by the war and endure all the heinous violations.

“This is not strange for the male mentality because all political leaders still do not attach importance to women’s issues, as evidenced by the fact that it was given 30% at the consultation meeting of civil political forces in Addis Ababa,” she said.

Nahla called for the need for equality with men by 50%, noting that women have great roles in the history of Sudan, ancient and modern.

In the same context, feminist activist Nihal Mohammed bin Idris told Radio Tamazuj that the feminist movement is working in social change and that religious and political leaders in its early era were supportive of feminist work.

“In modern Sudanese history, women have entered social and political life from an early age, and have held various positions in the medical and educational aspects in addition to diplomatic positions,” she added.

Feminist activist Maryam Hamed, one of the signatories of the telegram, said: “At a time when women are subjected to the most heinous types of violations and atrocity crimes or thinking about how to stop the war and the violations we are exposed to, we are distracted by secondary issues.”
