The Federal Assembly Accuses the Sudanese Army Intelligence of Arresting One of Its Members in the White Nile State

The Federal Rally Party accused the Sudanese army intelligence of arresting one of its members in the city of Tandalti in the White Nile state.

The party said in a statement on Thursday: “A force of military intelligence in the state of White Nile arrested brother Tariq Mohamed Ahmed Daqno yesterday, November 8, 2023 from inside the hospital in the city of Tandalti, while he was visiting his relatives affected by injuries in a traffic accident.”

The party explained that since his arrest his family has not been able to obtain any information about his safety or place of detention.

He considered that this arrest comes within a continuous series of arrests that have affected increasing numbers of political and human rights activists, civil society actors and members of resistance committees in a number of different Sudanese states.

The statement added: “We would also like to point out that the brother Bakri Mohamed Nour (Wad Al-Sayeh) is still under arrest by military intelligence in the state of Gezira inside the camp of the First Infantry Division – Wad Madani after 40 days have passed since the date of his arrest without allowing his family to visit him or check on his safety until now.”

The Federal Rally renewed its complete rejection of what it described as “arbitrary arrests” and attempts to muzzle voices and confiscate freedom of opinion and expression.

He held Military Intelligence fully responsible for these “illegal” arrests under Sudanese criminal law, stressing that they are being carried out without a legal justification that gives the intelligence the power to arrest.

He added: “While we express our deep concern about the detained brothers, we hold them responsible for their safety in terms of detention and call on all Sudanese, human rights defenders and those interested in humanitarian affairs inside and outside the country to express solidarity to release all detained citizens.”
