ISW: Ukraine’s Counteroffensive Continues on Three Fronts

Ukrainian troops conducted counter-offensive operations in at least three sectors of the front line and achieved success on June 19, according to the Institute for the Study of War. This information is partially confirmed by Russian military bloggers.

Ukrainian troops conducted counter-offensive operations in at least three sectors of the front line and achieved success on June 19, according to the Institute for the Study of War.

Russian “military correspondents” reported that the Ukrainian Armed Forces continued attacks in the northwest, northeast, and southwest of Bakhmut on June 19 and claim that Ukrainian troops advanced northeast of Bakhmut and carried out additional attacks near Berkhovka, 6 km north of Bakhmut, Yagodnoye, immediately north of Bakhmut and Kleshchievka, 7 km southwest of Bakhmut.

Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine Anna Malyar additionally reported that over the past week, Ukrainian troops in the Tauride direction – this is the Zaporozhye direction – have advanced up to seven kilometers and liberated 113 square kilometers of territory, including eight settlements in the west of Donetsk and west of Zaporizhia regions.

Russian military bloggers claim that Ukrainian troops attacked south of Velyka Novosyolka in the west of the Donetsk region. Geolocation footage released on June 19 confirms that the Ukrainian Armed Forces have liberated Pyatikhatky, about 25 kilometers southwest of Orekhov in the western part of the Zaporozhye region.

According to the UK MoD, Russia has probably deployed significant parts of the Dnieper group of troops from the left bank of the Kherson region in the Zaporozhye and Bakhmut directions in order to respond to the counter-offensive actions of Ukraine over the past 10 days.

The ISW has previously stated that the UAF may suspend counter-offensive activities in order to reconsider its tactics for future operations. The think tank previously noted that Ukraine has not yet committed most of its available forces to the counter-offensive operation and has not yet begun its main part.
